Die Oasenstadt Nizwa ist die größte Stadt in der ''Inneren Provinz'' und war im 6. und 7. Jahrhundert die Hauptstadt des Oman.<br><br />
Heute ist Nizwa mit seinen historischen Gebäuden und dem impostanten Fort aus dem 17. Jahrhundert eine der größten Touristenattraktionen des Landes. Die große Palmenoase hat eine Ausdehnung von acht Kilometern entlang dem Verlauf von zwei Wadis (ausgetrocknete Flußbetten). <br><br />
Nizwa ist berühmt für seinen großen ''Suk'' (Markt), wo man wunderbare Schmuckstücke aus Kupfer und Silber und anderes Kunsthandwerk kaufen kann.<br><br />
