Herbert de Fraine erinnert sich an seine Tätigkeit im Dienst der Bank of England, in deren Dienste er am 7. Juli 1886 trat und die er 1931 verließ. In dieser Zeit hatte er dort viele verschiedene Abteilungen durchlaufen, bis er für die letzten 20 Jahre seiner Tätigkeit die Druckerei der Bank leitete. In großer Detailtreue schildert er die Geschichte der Bank und deren interne Abläufe, sowie seine persönlichen Erfahrungen in den verschiedenen Abteilungen der Institution, mit deren Angestellten und der Leitung der Bank. Von besonderem Interesse sind auch Ausführungen über die Beteiligung seiner Druckerei an Fälschungen deutscher Papiere für den Nachrichtendienst der Royal Navy im ersten Weltkrieg. Neben den textuellen Darstellung enthält das Buch eine größere Anzahl historischer schwarz/weiss-Fotos von Gebäuden und leitenden Mitarbeitern der Bank of England.</div>Xxxepf
